Abstract

This article examines the significance of water resources as a vital natural asset and a fundamental basis for human life, health, and sustainable development. It analyzes the current state of water resource management in Uzbekistan, emphasizing increasing water scarcity caused by climate change, glacier reduction, and growing demand. The study highlights the adoption of the Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2025) as a crucial step toward systematizing water legislation and improving governance in the sector. The article explores key provisions of the Code, including integrated water resources management, prioritization of water use, environmental protection measures, digitalization, and institutional reforms. Special attention is given to transboundary water dependence, ecological challenges, and the need for international cooperation. The research concludes that the new Water Code establishes a modern legal framework for efficient water management, ensures ecological sustainability, and supports long-term socio-economic development in conditions of increasing water scarcity.
