In an increasingly globalized world, the ability to communicate in English is essential. Self-study, as a flexible and autonomous learning approach, has become a prominent method for language acquisition, especially in contexts where access to formal education is limited. This study investigates the goals and strategies of self-directed learners of English, with a focus on university-level students. Based on surveys and literature, it identifies common motivations, tools, and learning behaviors. Findings suggest that self-study enhances learner autonomy, motivation, and personalized progress. Effective strategies include digital tools, goal-setting, and metacognitive reflection. The study contributes to understanding how learners can optimize independent learning in the context of English language education.
